Winni’s eco-packaging: among the winners of the CONAI 2020 competition

Winni’s eco-packaging gains an excellent position in the CONAI 2020 ranking for eco-design. Not only packaging, but also production processes.

Packaging: a crucially important problem for the ecosystem, but also a resource for investing in a cleaner future. For years, Winni’s has been working to produce ever more sustainable eco-packaging and reduce the impact of its production in all phases. This effort has been recognised and rewarded by CONAI.

CONAI 2020: Eco-packaging and manufacturing processes

CONAI, the Italian National Packaging Consortium, has published the results of its annual competition for prevention and the promotion of environmentally sustainable packaging. An initiative that rewards solutions for sustainable packaging, the CONAI 2020 competition focused on eco-design and the circular economy: therefore, the goal was not only to evaluate the final destination of the packaging, but also its entire production cycle.

Various criteria were adopted by CONAI to evaluate the sustainability of the packaging, from recycling and re-use practices to saving on raw materials and optimising production processes and logistics. Elements such as CO2 emissions and water and energy consumption were also evaluated.

Winni’s: a lot more than just eco-packaging

The competition, open to companies in all product categories, saw wide participation (almost 300 entries were received), but only 160 entries were admitted, with 92 awarded. Winni’s is among the top positions in the ranking.

We are very proud of this result, which confirms the position of our brand among the most responsible and eco-friendly on the market. We have been pursuing and studying for this result for years, looking for ever more innovative and sustainable solutions – such as our recent collaboration with Hitachi for the treatment of waste water. Our company is also equipped with a photovoltaic system that covers a total area of 55 thousand square metres, and a state-of-the-art co-generator, in order to make our production process cleaner right from the ground up. This is possible thanks to an advanced, low-consumption lighting system (with LED lights and movement/brightness sensors), an air conditioning system using heat pumps, and many other fundamentally important systems.

Eco-packaging has always been one of our priorities: our doypack pouches (our so-called “eco-formats”) save up to 87% of the raw materials of conventional bottles, actively contributing to reducing the plastic in the environment. Our new single-material packaging is the first to be completely recyclable as plastic, and there is an ever higher percentage of recycled plastic in all our bottles.

Winni’s: the goal of sustainability

But we won’t stop here. There is still a long way to go to reduce our ecological footprint. In the last 10 years we have reduced our carbon footprint by 39%, and we aspire to continue to improve.

As our Vice President, Giacomo Sebastiani, affirms, summarising all the company’s values:

“The link between Winni’s and the green economy is becoming tighter and tighter, and this means that applying the “Winni’s philosophy” to all of our production processes, and to the management of all our products, is a winning choice that has allowed us to become a company of reference for the ecological detergent sector. It is a critical priority for us to create quality products that respect the environment, and people, at accessible prices.

This certification from CONAI is a goal achieved for Winni’s, but also a new starting point for new concrete commitments to the environment and the wellbeing of all people, and all living beings.
